Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a chart showing our different push button styles. If your push button is mounted in a traditional wall box, it will be attached to male weld studs two inches (2.0”) on center. If it is in a surface-mounted housing, the housing projects 1.375” from the wall, and the stud pattern is diagonal.

Innovation Industries, Incorporated currently has seven standard series of push buttons, making 34 different styles, each of which comes in choice of two mounting patterns.

Multi-voltage LEDpush buttonand indicator boards come in your choice of five illumination colors: amber, blue, green, red and white. Amber most closely resembles the appearance of incandescent PSB type lamps common in many existing fixtures, so it is our shop standard on almost all new fixtures. Orders for vandal-resistant Security Series and Bruiser Series push buttons commonly use red illumination. Special order illumination color is always available, so don’t hesitate to ask for one of the other colors if you want to change, or you are trying to match an existing job.

While mirror finish is the shop standard, Security Series push buttons are also available with a satin (#4 brush) finish.

Traditional style push buttons require a minimum clearance of 2.00” deep.
Innovation I-Line push buttons require a minimum clearance of 1.125” deep.

No, at the current time, there is no way to add one of our push buttons without also providing welded studs to which to attach it.

In some cases. Any Universal Series roundpush buttonwill convert to any round Security style with the same stud pattern. However, Universal square push buttons have mounting holes 1.375” square, making them larger than their 1.250” square Security style counterparts. Decorator push buttons have no equivalent Security style.

No. Bruiser Series push buttons have a smaller hole diameter and require a special counterbore on the surface of the panel.

With the exception of the flat fire service I-Line? keyswitch, our standard barrel-type keyswitches require a minimum clearance of 2.75”. Custom made and specialty keyswitches vary.

Here is a chart showing the contact arrangement for the many different switches we use. There is a cross-reference from the manufacturer’s part number printed on the switch to our internal part number. Match your switch with the chart, and check it with a meter. If it tests out per the chart, it is not defective. However, your controller may need different contacts than the switch provides. Compare your controller schematic with our other switches to find one that better suits your needs. If you still have questions, contact the Customer Service Department for assistance.

In most cases, yes. Look on the following chart and find your current lock. Under that picture are all of the key code choices available. If you don’t have a lock of this style, contact a Customer Service representative for available options.

If it is a barrel-type lock, the key code is usually stamped on one of the flat sides of the lock cylinder. Open the panel so you can see the back of the keyswitch. You may have to remove the rotary switch and the hex nut. Typical codes would be 513, 514, 515, etc.

If it were a custom-ordered barrel-type lock, the code will not be stamped. The factory stocks keys up to key code EX 529, and you may want to order some keys to try in it. There may be other numbers on the back of the panel that would help to identify the parts. Contact a Customer Service representative for assistance.

Spare keys for key codes EX511 through EX519 are sold by the dozen on this site. Go to the Keyswitches section. Keys for more key codes can be ordered direct from the factory, subject to normal minimum order policies. Contact the Parts Sales/Customer Service department at https://www.innovationind.com/ or call us toll-free at 800-843-1004.

If you can use one of our standard barrel-type locks, and if the box is at least 2.75” deep and if there is sufficient room for the device on the faceplate, our PB13 style keyswitches will mount quickly and easily even if there are no factory weld studs. The only field modification required is to drill a round hole .75” in diameter. The kit will come with adhesive-backed anti-rotation plates for either horizontal or vertical mount, and a surface-mounted 1.375” diameter escutcheon for identification. These are available on-line in the Parts Department.

Muntz 280 is a copper alloy with a nominal composition of 60% copper and 40% zinc. Also known as muntz metal, it has a bright gold color and is preferred for many commercial applications because it is harder than bronze. Bronze 220 alloy has a nominal composition of 90% copper and 10% zinc. Sometimes called commercial bronze, it has a deeper red appearance than muntz. Our standard is to apply a polyurethane clear coat to both materials to minimize color change. If requested, the factory will omit the clear coat for antique or oil-rubbed finishes to be applied by others.

Samples of all standard 11 gauge faceplate materials, 3”x 5”, are available. Specify material and your choice of satin #4 brushed (150 grit) or polished #8 mirror finish. Complete and submit the Contact Form.
